The formation of the Umayyad Caliphate across mainland Spain brought in its wake the establishment of the first schools and music conservatories, and subsequently, the development of music in the al-Andalus. In this context, North African schools played an important role as disseminators of the Eastern culture originating from Baghdad, Cairo, or Alexandria. To this day, they are also recipients and continuators of the musical legacy of al-Andalus which still survives in oral and written tradition in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya. The biggest capital cities of al-Andalus—characterized by their academic freedom—became the most vibrant intellectual centres for Music and Science. Al-Andalus homed many musicians, scientists, renowned theorists, and qiyan (highly educated female singers who also served as slaves). All this gave rise to a rich musical repertoire, resulting from the symbiotic relationship between native and foreign sounds that was so characteristic of al-Andalus.

The book Arabian Nights: One Thousand and One Nights (Alf Layla wa-Layla) are a collection of stories transmitted orally throughout the years to be finally included in a manuscript. Set in India, Middle East, Egypt, and China, the book chronicles different adventures, tragedies, love stories, and even comedies. The use of frame story, which early examples are from ancient India, is a literary technique whereby the main characters within a narrative can also narrate a set of shorter stories. For centuries, these stories fascinated scholars from around the world, who eventually collected enough tales to read every night—maybe for one thousand and one nights to be exact!

The Alhambra of Granada is the only monument in the world which represents the 17 possible wallpaper groups (or plane symmetry group or plane crystallographic group). However, it was not until 19th century when a list was created to classify them in simmetry groups, that is, the Federov's theorem. Nasrid art represents an improvement in the application of symmetry, both in architectural and ornamental designs which can be seen on the walls of the nasrid palaces. The tileworks of the Alhambra are composed of a geometric rhythm following a repetitive structure, and those geometric patterns are the best example of Islamic decorative system as a metaphor for eternity, infinity and divinity. Tiendas de la Alhambra offers a wide range of products printed with geometric decoration, and several books on symmetry and geometry.
