The OWHC (Organization of World Heritage Cities) was created in the Moroccan city of Fez on the 8th of September, 1993. The purpose of the OWHC is to safeguard the cultural heritage of cities with areas and monuments of outstanding universal value. The city of Granada was included in a list of top cities because of its singular geographic features in Sierra Nevada, the Alpujarra Mountains, or any spot along the Motril coast. Also worthy of a mention is the maze of medieval streets at both neighborhoods Albayzin and Realejo—which still remain intact up to this day—and of course, the Alhambra and Generalife: a priceless and unique artistic achievement from the Islamic period.

To mark this milestone in history, 8th September was declared World Heritage Cities Solidarity Day in order to broaden the knowledge of cultural heritage of cities and bring younger generations closer together. Tiendas de la Alhambra is contributing to the development of people who are respectful of the heritage and history of Granada.

Initially, flamenco music was not just a performance or a show, it was a form of expression for some people. Flamenco was transmitted through poems of great cultural diversity and complexity that could only be expressed with what the Spanish call duende, that is, heartrending emotions and the Gipsy sense of art. From the earliest days of flamenco, this Spanish genre has since been an inspiration for artists from all over the world. Described as the most influential indigenous music from the Western world, even travellers were fascinated with this artistic expression. In 2010, UNESCO inscribed flamenco on the Representative List of the Intangible cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In Al-Andalus, the planning legislation would go hand in hand with Islamic religious values such as privacy and intimacy in the life of inhabitants. This fact is properly reflected in the framework of the cities with narrow streets to avoid excessive heights of the buildings, or with doors facing each other. An access to an interior courtyard or patio were used instead of windows at the front of the house, and if so they built wooden windows with shutters. A clear example is the design of home private spaces of ther Alhambra, or the layout of the Albayzin neighborhood which might seem chaotic at first, but it does follow the logic to uphold these precepts.
